2020 Flying Star Feng Shui
Happy Chinese new year! Wishing you happiness and health in 2020!
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of arranging objects within space to enhance energy flow and improve different areas of your life.
On Friday, we officially entered the Chinese year of 2020 - the year of the Metal Rat!
With a new year comes changes to the energy in every space and all around us. One of the biggest changes in Feng Shui terms, is the movement of the Annual Flying Stars.
Flying Stars are an integral part of Traditional Chinese Feng Shui. They are energies (some positive and some negative) that move around the space at certain times; monthly, annually and periodically (every 20 years).
With every movement comes a shift in energy and in luck. Fortunately, these energies move in patterns so these shifts can be predicted and we can stay one step ahead in determining our luck.
When positive Flying Star energies are harnessed and enhanced, we can reap many benefits. This can include increased wealth and prosperity, excellent health, happy relationships, personal and professional success and more.
Conversely, if negative Flying Star energies are left unattended and without remedy, they can wreak havoc on our lives! This can manifest in problems with health, lawsuits, severe illnesses, massive loss of wealth, relationship issues...you get it.
Although Chinese New Year is celebrated on a different day each year, the official date of change for the Feng Shui Annual Flying Stars is the 4th of February. So that means there is still time to put remedies in place to set yourself up to get the best out of the year ahead!
Each time the Annual Flying Stars move, this is a universal and worldwide event. These shifts occur in every house, office and building and affect everyone inhabiting or working in these spaces.
Below is information on each Annual Flying Star, what they each do, where they sit in 2020 and tips for enhancing or remedying the effects of each star. There is a fair amount of information, so take your time and reach out with any questions.
While Feng Shui can produce immediate effects, it is also designed to benefit you in the long-run and support you long-term. Feng Shui is designed to create a space that supports you in achieving your goals. It alone may not magically give you a "perfect" life, however, applying Feng Shui will create a space that is conducive to positive changes, new opportunities, increased prosperity, love and good health.
If you want advice on Flying Stars please feel free to get in touch. Flying Stars can have a major impact on our livelihood and wellbeing. Applications of Flying Star Feng Shui can be very intricate and complex and there are many elements to consider. They are taken very seriously in Traditional Chinese Feng Shui and a Feng Shui Master Practitioner should be consulted to locate and enhance or remedy these powerful energies correctly.
Annual Flying Star Analysis 2020
Analysing the Flying Stars takes many factors and Feng Shui principles into account.
Each sector of the Bagua (compass direction) AND each Flying Star have corresponding numbers, elements, shapes, colours, body parts, family members, seasons...the list goes on!
The individual relationship between all of these must be analysed carefully while bearing in mind also the constructive, destructive and exhaustive cycles of the 5 Elements.
Don't let that overwhelm you, it's just an explanation for how it all works! You don't have to do that part, it's already done for you!
As mentioned above, the Period Flying Stars move every 20 years, with the beginning of a new "Period". Currently, we are in Period 8 (2004-2024). Certain stars are auspicious during certain periods and in certain years and others are inauspicious.
Currently, the auspicious (lucky) Flying Stars are numbers 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9. The rest are considered inauspicious (unlucky) during this period.
This article focuses on the Annual Flying Stars and does not go into detail about the Period and Monthly Flying Stars. The table above shows the positions of the Annual Flying Stars in 2020 from the 4th of February.
The 1 White Opportunity Star
In Feng Shui, the number 1 corresponds to career, life path and opportunities. It also embodies the Element of Water. The same goes for the #1 White Opportunity Star.
This is an auspicious star that can bring new opportunities for career and wealth generation.
On February 4th in 2020, the 1 Star "flies" into the North East, which is the Skills, Knowledge, Wisdom and Spirituality sector, meaning 2020 is a good year to pursue or begin new study opportunities, especially for the youngest and/or middle son of the family.
As mentioned above, the 1 Star embodies the Water Element.
The supporting Element of the North East is Earth.
In Feng Shui, Water and Earth clash, as Earth dams Water so this combination is one that needs some remedying. We want to balance the Earth energy to support this sector while also enhancing the Water Element to maximise on the benefits of the 1 Star. The addition of the Metal Element can help us achieve this, although we don't want to go too overboard with metal here.
Adding water, as well as colours that represent water (black and blue) will be beneficial and some small metal items or colours like white, grey and silver.
Enhancers and Remedies for the North East in 2020:
Metal Element (white, grey, silver, metal objects)
Water Element (water feature, glass, mirror(s), black, blue, undulating shapes, pictures / artworks of water)
Brass Wu Luo (optional enhancer)
FuXi Dual Dragon Bell (optional enhancer)
Avoid the Wood Element (greens, browns, plants, wooden objects)
Avoid the Fire Element (candles, red, fire, pointy or triangular shapes)
The 2 Black Illness Star
The 2 Star is an inauspicious star in Period 8. It is associated with health, financial and relationship problems.
As opposed to the 5 Yellow Catastrophe Star (discussed later), the 2 Black Illness Star generally results in smaller injuries or illnesses, such as paper cuts, a cold or flu or allergies, rather than major health problems.
Unfortunately though, its energy is very strong in 2020, emphasising its effect. Those most at risk are likely women and the middle daughter, although its energy will affect everyone. People with a Kua number of 4 will also more affected by the 2 Star.
This year, the 2 Star will sit in the South - the Fame, Reputation, Success and Status sector. This may cause challenges within the professional realm as well relating to business finances and professional business relationships / partnerships. Sadly the #2 Star is not alone in the South either, accompanied by annual afflictions The Three Killings and Sui Po (Year Breaker).
***The Three Killings does NOT mean death or killing!!!*** Just thought I would make that clear.
The Three Killings represents challenges that you may face, so it is auspicious and beneficial to face the South this year, in order to see what is coming your way and to be able to address challenges head on.
It is NOT auspicious, however and should MOST DEFINITELY BE AVOIDED to dig in the South or renovate this area!! This is a BIG NO NO in 2020, as it will anger the Sui Po and The Three Killings, causing them to unleash their wrath! (I wanted to make that sound really dramatic), but in all seriousness, DO NOT DISTURB THIS AREA!
Avoid renovations, digging, loud noises (slamming doors) and major activity in this sector.
Are you scared yet? Wait until we get to the #5 Star! I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
Let's look at the remedies for the South this year!
Enhancers and Remedies for the South in 2020:
Salt Water Cure (Highly recommended click here)
Add a Wen Chang pagoda (traditional 9-tier tower) (recommended)
Enhance this area with the Wood Element (green, brown, plants, wooden objects)
Avoid adding too much of the Fire Element (use the Wood Element instead) Side Note: Although the Element for the South is Fire, the Fire Element will inflame the Earth Element of the 2 Star. Best to use the Wood Element here to destroy the Earth and fuel the Fire.
Metal Element can also be added sparingly (white, grey, silver, metal items)
5-rod wind chime (recommended)
Address any health issues quickly, especially relating to heart, eyes, stomach or female organs
Avoid digging, renovating or disturbing this area (including loud noises)
Three Divine Guardians statues (Chi Lin, Fu Dog and Pi Yao - optional)
The 3 Jade Argument Star
This inauspicious Flying Star lands in the North this year. The North is the Career and Lifepath sector of any space. Having the 3 Star here can result in arguments, quarrels and disharmony, especially related between colleagues and in the workplace. Effects can also extend to loss of wealth, legal issues, disputes and increased stress.
With the 3 Star's very strong influence here in 2020, it is worth taking the time to read any and all contracts and paperwork carefully this year before signing.
Tai Sui AKA The Grand Duke also resides in the North this year. Like with the South, it is important to avoid disturbing the North this year as well. That means NO loud noises (including doors slamming) and no renovations or digging.
A Lu Mi Tai Sui Plaque can be placed here to appease the Grand Duke (Tai Sui) as a remedy.
Those most susceptible to the effects of these afflictions in the North are males in general, especially the eldest, middle and/or only son.
It is best to have your back to the North in 2020.
The 3 Jade Star embodies the Wood Element, which conflicts with the Water Element of the North sector. Adding a small amount of metal here will enhance the Water Element, while also reducing the effect of the Wood.
Don’t go too overboard with the metal. Mainly stick to Metal colours (white, grey, silver).
You can use the Fire Element (red, orange, candles, pointy objects) as well to reduce the effects of the 3 Star and this can be more auspicious than using Metal alone.
Crystals are good to place here as well (clear, red, orange, black, blue).
Enhancers and Remedies for the North in 2020:
Fire Element (red, candles, triangles, pointy objects, lights)
Metal Element (white, grey, silver) - use sparingly!
Lu Mi Tai Sui Plaque
Avoid disturbing this area - no loud noises, no renovations, structural changes or digging
No wind chimes
Have you back to the North (face the South)
Read paperwork and contracts carefully
The 4 Romance and Academic Star
Another auspicious Star in 2020!
When activated, the 4 Star star can bring about all kinds of wonderful results in love and also in career and workplace productivity. The #4 star governs love, relationships, career, travel, creativity, academic, and self-development prospects. Women in particular may reap the benefits of activating this positive energy!
This year, on Feb 4th, the 4 Romance and Academic Star flies into the South West sector, relating to Love and Relationships. The 4 Star turns this into a powerful manifesting sector in 2020 for all areas of life. Place photos, pictures, symbols etc. here that represent what you want to attract into your life.
Once again the Wood Element of the 4 Star and the Earth Element of the South West conflict. It is important to avoid having items or objects that represent the Fire and Metal Elements here in 2020. That means no candles, no reds or oranges, no whites, greys or silvers, no metal or pointy objects. Avoid circles and triangles. All of these shapes and colours will weaken the positive energy of the 4 Star.
Enhance this sector with Water and Wood Elements! Blues, black, glass, mirrors and water are all beneficial for this area as well as greens, browns, plants, wooden objects and rectangles.
As it is the Love and Relationships sector, feel free to add pairs of items if you are looking for a relationship. MandarinDucks make a nice addition.
If you are looking to purchase an additional enhancer, a Jiangongliye wish and romance enhancer can be added to this sector in 2020.
If you don't take advantage of this Star this year, it an lead to unwanted opportunities.
Enhancers and Remedies for the South West in 2020:
Water Element (water, blues, black, charcoal, undulating shapes, images or artwork of water, mirrors and glass, water features, fish tank)
Images of things you want to manifest
Pairs of items to attract a relationship
Wood Element (greens, browns, rectangles, plants, wood)
Jiangongliye wish and romance enhancer (optional)
Mandarin Ducks (optional)
Avoid Metal and Fire Elements
The 5 Yellow Catastrophe Star
This year, the 5 Yellow Catastrophe Star "flies" into the East.
This star is notoriously associated with major problems relating to health, loss of wealth (including bankruptcy), accidents, lawsuits and general bad luck. Remember - everything is remedy-able!
The East is a somewhat better location than the 5 Star's previous position in the South West in 2019!
The East is the Family and Community sector. The Element for the East is Wood, destructor of Earth, which is the Element of the 5 Star. Hooray!
Luckily this means energy of the 5 Yellow Star is weaker in this sector this year, however, it is still important to remedy it to avoid health, legal and financial challenges. Most at risk could be the eldest son of the family.
This is another location where it is important to avoid any digging, renovations, structural changes and loud noises. Aim to keep this sector peaceful and undisturbed.
Remedies include a salt water cure, 6-rod metal windchime, laughing buddhas, moving metal (fan / pendulum clock), Metal (white, grey, silver, metal objects), Wood and Water Elements. it is important to avoid the Fire Element in this sector, so no candles, red colours, triangles or pointy objects.
Enhancers and Remedies for the East in 2020:
Salt Water Cure (Highly recommended click here)
6-rod metal wind chime (highly recommended)
Pendulum clock (highly recommended)
Moving metal, such as a metal fan (recommended)
6 I-Ching Coins in a row
Metal Element (white, grey, silver, bronze, metal objets, round shapes)
Wood and Water Elements
Avoid the Fire Element
Avoid disturbing, renovating or digging and loud noises
Wu Lou (optional)
The 6 White Heavenly Star
It gets better! This is a highly auspicious Star in Period 8, as the name suggests. This year it will sit in the South East - the Prosperity and Abundance Sector. Good news!
The supporting Element for the South East is Wood. Water can also help to enhance this area, so both of these elements can be added here to enhance this sector this year.
A tiny bit of metal can also be added here to enhance the annual 6 Heavenly Star in 2020, but Water is better.
Use green and brown (Wood colours) and plants to enhance this sector. You can also add a water feature here if you choose and Water Element colours like black, blue and charcoal. Purple is also beneficial here.
Earth will also help to strengthen the Metal energy of the 6 Star without compromising the Wood Element. Add colours like yellow, beige and orange to this area and Earth materials like whicker or terracotta.
When activated, the 6 Heavenly Star can bring financial and career luck in the year of the Rat. This is a safe place to spend time this year.
Imagery and items that represent money can ideally be placed here as well. Eg. money trees, money toads (facing inwards), lucky coins, actual money etc. This sector corresponds to wealth accumulation.
Enhancers and Remedies for the South East in 2020:
Money Tree (especially a gem stone one)
3-legged Money toad
Earth Element (yellow, beige, brown, orange, square shapes, whicker and terractotta)
Caiyuangungun Sheng Chi (optional)
Real quartz crystal(s)
Avoid Fire Element (no candles)
The 7 Red Violence and Robbery Star
On February 4th, the 7 Red Star will move into the Centre of every home, office, building and space.
The Centre of every space is the Health sector. As you probably guessed, this is not an ideal location for the 7 Star, especially since the 7 Star's Element is Metal, which drains the Earth Element of the Centre / Health sector.
The number 7 in Feng Shui relates to little Metal. Avoid using – or be careful if using – scissors, knives, pins and other small metal objects here this year. Be careful around these kind of items in general, as the 7 Star can relate to injuries to do with small metal objects.
This Star will effect everyone in the home. The youngest daughter may be slightly more susceptible than others in the home. Watch for injuries / issues relating to teeth, mouth and bones...(braces?)...
It is highly advisable to check your security and ensure your door(s) are securely locked when not home or at night. Please also take the time to frequently check that smoke detectors / fire alarms are in working order this year.
To enhance this sector and also to remedy the 7 Star, you can add the colour red sparingly and a few objects that represent the Fire Element.
Do NOT have open / naked flames in this sector and it is NOT advised to leave fire / flame of any sort unattended in the home.
Feel free to add water colours here such as black, blue and charcoal.
A Mei Hua Fu Zhou can be a good remedy to add here as well, if you feel inclined.
Enhancers and Remedies for the Centre in 2020:
Water Element (black, blue, charcoal colours)
Mei Hua Fu Zhou (Optional)
Avoid Fire (absolutely no naked flames)
Avoid Metal (grey, white, silver, metal objets, round shapes)
The 8 Wealth Star
A highly auspicious number in our current Period 8. Representing wealth, prosperity and fortune!
The 8 star is another Earth Star and this year falls into the Metal sector of the North West - the Helpful People and Travel sector.
This sector relates to the male and/or the breadwinner of the family. Having the 8 Star here this year can bring good fortune and wealth, especially to the father figure or alpha male of the family - or the main breadwinner. (Remember, traditional Chinese culture is very patriarchal - for reference the South West relates to the mother / main female of the home).
While working can keep the wealth building, be careful not to overwork this year and avoid getting over-stressed. With the 7 Star hovering in the Health sector, we want to avoid any extra stress on the body, particularly the head. Look after yourself this year and please prioritise your health over your work.
Objects and colours representing the Earth Element can be added here to enhance this area in 2020. These include yellow, orange, beige, terracotta and whicker. The 8 Star can also be activated with Water Element.
Enhancers and Remedies for the North West in 2020:
Keep this sector clean and tidy this year (no clutter!)
Some Water Element (blue, black, charcoal, water, undulating shapes)
Avoid the Fire Element
Go easy on the Metal Element
Gold Tsai Shen Yeh statue (wealth protection - optional)
Mandarin ducks or 2 rose quartz hearts for love
Pair of dragons with pearls (optional)
The 9 Purple Star
Finishing on a positive note, the 9 Star is another auspicious star in 2020! The 9 Purple Star is highly auspicious in Period 8 and represents future wealth.
It will come to rest in the West in 2020 - the Creativity and Children sector. The Element for this sector is Metal. The 9 Purple Star represents the Fire Element and therefore has a weakening effect on the West sector. Use the Wood Element to enhance the 9 Star while not compromising the Metal. Feel free to enhance this sector with purple(s), pairs and wealth items.
A Dragon Headed Tortoise (with a tortoise on its back and sitting on a bed of coins) can be a great enhancer in the West this year for protecting future wealth.
If your bedroom is located in the West, this can bring great opportunity to attract a new relationship.
Enhancers and Remedies for the West in 2020:
Green, leafy plants or violets (keep them alive!)
Wood Element (green, brown, plants, wood)
Wu Lou or eight Chinese coins (optional)
Pairs of items (for love)
Fuk Luk Sau (optional)
Wealth items (eg. money tree, money toad etc.)
Overall, at the very least if you remedy the South, East and Centre this year and enhance the West, North West and South East you should have a pretty good year!
Some of the things I said above may have made you want to move out of your room this year! Sometimes it can be necessary, however, if you follow this guide, you will be fine. Any major issues or any questions, please feel free to get in touch. Just remember, everything is remediable!
